Remodel pics

Hm, I guess I never posted about the finished remodel. My wife posted some pictures on her blog so I'll go steal those and put them here too. It took a ton of work to move all of our furniture around. We had stuff crammed in the bathrooms, in the kitchen, on the patio, the computers desk in the laundry room, and a ton of bigger stuff down in the playroom. It was crazy. And then of course we had to pull up all the carpet and pad and haul it outside. Then when the carpet was all installed we had to move all of the furniture back to where it went. So the wife and I did this all ourselves and it was quite a workout! It was all worth it though and the house looks amazing! So much more open looking. Here's the finished look:

Financial planning

Recently my company paid a bunch of financial planner guys to come give some financial advice to any of the employees who wanted it. I decided to take advantage of it and they came to our house and talked with us about our financial goals and everything. It was nice to get things laid out and on paper so we can keep track of those things better. We also talked about things like life insurance rates, savings for our kids, and wills. My wife and I still need to fill out some information in the binder they gave us, but it's nice to have it all where we can see it.

Step it up

For my job's health challenge this month my wife and I are participating in the body fat freefall. We get in teams of 4 and see who's team can lose the most body fat over the next 2 months. We chose to do that because my wife didn't think we should do the weight loss contest since she has no weight to lose. We should probably be doing a little more exercise though. My wife has already lost 1.71% which is awesome. At least we don't have to wear an oximeter to keep track of how our exercise it going, since we don't really exercise. My wife keeps planning to starts an exercise DVD she has but hasn't gotten around to it yet. We did get exercise a few weeks ago from moving all our furniture around and tearing up and removing the old carpet.

Tile Done!

I am getting really exited for our new carpet to be installed this weekend. The tile in the entryways and bathrooms is finally all done and looks really great. Now I'm working on putting a fresh coat of paint on some of the baseboards before the carpet is laid. They were looking pretty scuffed and dingy, and there are some spots where the color from the blue couches had rubbed off and left purple patches on the paint that won't wash off. Even with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser that normally works on everything. I'm not sure if even Flexo ink cleaner would work on those spots. So it's easier to just paint over them. My wife taped off the baseboards in the living room and helped pull back the carpet and I'm just finishing up that room now. Tomorrow we will get the family room. We want it all dry before the carpet comes Friday. It's looking really nice already though.

One Day

Growing up, I had a friend that had a pool table. I used to always want to go over there to play pool. Ever since then, I've been wanting a pool table. I love playing the game. No, I'm not very good at it. But I still love playing it. I may have to setting for a small sized table, like one of those ping pong tables until we have a house that has enough spare room for a pool table. One day.

Every Week

We love buying things when they are on sale. Even the carpet we bought, the labor to install it was on sale. With sales, you can save so much money. However, what happens where there is a sale every week at the same store. There is a furniture store around here that always seems to be having a sale and the sale is bigger than the last one. Is it truly a sale when it's on sale everyweek?

Remodeling

We started remodeling our house in West Jordan. The carpet has needed replacing for some time now. We are putting tile in both of the upstairs bathrooms and tile inside the front door and back door. So far it is going well. We had to raise part of our family room floor because it had sunk. That got raised up today. Looks good. The tile inside our front door has been laid and looks great. If things go as they should, we may be able to schedule to new carpet to come in as early as next week. Not quite sure how to get everything out of the way and all the old carpet out of the house. Guess we will cross that bridge when we get there.

Can you hear me now?

Recently my wife and I have decided that we'd like to switch to iPhones as soon as we get our new carpet and tile all paid off. Luckily we are no longer under contract with our current cell phone provider so there will be no penalty for switching. Our baby on the other hand seems to want to help push us to get new phones sooner. Twice in the last week he has dunked my wife's phone in a cup of water. It started working 2 days after the first dunking, but is still not fully working again after the second. I feel like we should get an insurance quote for everything in our house to cover damage by baby. It's a good thing we found one of our old phones that my wife can use as a backup, and hopefully we can make it another few months until we can get the iPhones. My phone is also starting to give up. The vibrating part is all wacko. It makes a chirping sounds and does a little spazzy shake. Sounds like it's going to blow up. I can live with it, just hope it doesn't completely die within the next few months, we have no more backup phones.
