Joke of the Day
Isn't it sad that to get a raise from some jobs, you have to threaten to leave? To me, that sounds like a really reactive approach to keeping your employees as opposed to a proactive approach where you offer your employees what they want so they don't even want to start looking for another job. Sadly, my last employer was this way. When it came time to discuss a raise, conveniently, no one who handled that would be in town. However, if they got wind that you were thinking of leaving, everyone was there and they had an offer for you on the spot. Raises should not be offered as an incentive to stop you from leaving. They should be offered as an incentive to stop you from even looking.
